A crazy and highly enjoyable match. The bald facts are that Man United are now firmly installed in fourth place, five points ahead of Liverpool in fifth. Juan Mata scored twice, one a neatly placed finished and the other one a bit of a screamer. Steven Gerrard came on at half time and was sent off again by the 46th minute, but Liverpool fought back gamely with ten men.
Daniel Sturridge pulled a goal back to give Liverpool hope of an unlikely comeback but the visitors were never seriously threatened again and could even afford the luxury of Wayne Rooney seeing an injury-time penalty saved by Liverpool keeper Simon Mignolet.
